A repost from my Facebook. Original November 14, 2015

Added to Mount Vernon during the Revolutionary War, Washington’s study was strictly off limits to anyone without invitation. After his retirement in 1783, he had countless number of visitors that would stop to talk, when he had had enough, Washington would retire to his study to read from on of his 884 books, add entries to his diary, write letters or manage his estate. His day would start around 4-5AM with two hours in the study and end his day there until his prompt 9PM bedtime.
