A repost from my Facebook. Original November 30, 2015.
The Navy Department Library was established by a letter from President John Adams to the first Secretary of the Navy Benjamin Stoddard in 1800. It was established to be the most comprehensive naval library of its kind. Today it is housed at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. and has over 170,000 books, 349,000 manuscripts as well as thousands of periodicals and government documents with an emphasis on naval, military, and nautical history including foreign navies. It is one of the few major military historical libraries open to the public.
Of all the places I would love to work, this is near the top of my list.
